Tuesday

What a fun day we had exploring and learning all about the Sonoran Desert! The weather was great and not too hot. We were able to see a cactus wren in her nest, some gila woodpeckers pecking at a saguaro cactus.
The desert was really active and alive today. I did post some pictures of the centers students experienced.

Before we left, I was surprised with w beautiful basket of goodies. All of my favorites, chocolate chip cookies, chocolates, lovely fruits, wonderful gift cards and gifts. I am so blessed to work in such a loving, caring community. Thank you to everyone for participating in Teacher Appreciation Week! We appreciate all of you!

We spent the afternoon writing thank you notes to Desert Center. Students did their best printing and used the correct letter format and spelling so they wouldn't need to rewrite their thank you letter.
Student also finished up writing their rough drafts of their realistic fiction multi-paragraph story.

Monday

I think we have all recovered from a really fun Field Day. 2B won 3rd place in the K-2 category. We were all winners for participating in Field Day!

Today we are continuing discussing the parts of the mass in religion.

In language arts we reviewed long vowel sounds and patterns. We also worked on "ou" and "ow". We read about reading a recipe and following directions. Students also worked on their realistic fiction 3 paragraph story. Most have a rough draft, some almost have a rough draft.

In math we are working on counting, reading, and writing money amounts. Students will begin adding money later this week.

Don't forget tomorrow is the 2nd grade field trip to the Desert Center @Pinnacle Peak. Be sure to wear sunscreen and a hat and bring a water bottle with your name on it. It will be a great day.

Thank you for the beautiful thankful tree on my door this morning. Students wrote why the "love Mrs. Marshall". The sentiments were precious and memorable. I was also treated to a delicious lunch from Paradise Bakery. Thank you to Mrs. Cournand and Mrs. Carlson for all their hard work to make Teacher Appreciation Week great!

Wednesday

Today Fr. Pat said mass and it was such fun to share the Eucharist with him. The students really enjoy when he visits.
In math students were so great at 5's and 10's in multiplication and division that we were able to finish up the unit on division with remainders a few days early. They caught on so well. Tomorrow starts a new unit on money. Remember that students should be doing IXL nightly.
In reading students worked on story sequencing with first, next, and last. They also worked in phonics writing works with silent letters like gn, kn, mb, and wr. We are also practicing reading faster with less errors to improve oral reading fluency.
Students were able to use the ipads in centers today. They are so good at using these and they are learning so much.
We are continuing to work on possessive pronouns. This is taking a little longer and they are getting more practice.
In science students are working with partners to create and build a tower using a limited amount of solids. They are not able to use tape or glue. I saw some great ideas and great minds thinking and problem solving.

Don't forget to pick out a book and start reading it for Book Talks that are due on May, 10.
