January 18 Weekly email

Good afternoon,
There are a lot of announcements this week, so please read the whole email for all the information.

This week our new story is a biography about the poet Gabriela Mistral. Students will be studying the character and she expresses herself in her work. Students will be learning about the being verbs: is, are, was, were. They are also reviewing long e sound for y and changing y to i. They will also practice the suffix -ful and -y.
In math, we will begin counting money. In social studies, our unit continues to be on geography. Students are completing research on a landform they were given. They needed to find out which continent it is located and write 3 facts about the landform. then they will write a short paragraph and record it.
In religion, students are learning about the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Our Faith IN Action Project for January is a community wide project that will serve children in Foster Care here in our Valley.  We are asking everyone here to make a no-sew fleece blanket.  Many times, children in foster care are removed from their home at a moments notice and can only take what will fit in a small bag.  These blankets are easy for these children to take from p lace to place and serve as an item of comfort during these tough transitions.   Please see the Friday email and your teacher pages for instructions and turn in your blanket during Catholic Schools week at the end of the month.  Thank you and God bless!!
