Monday

The deadline for Auction Night gift basket donations is this Wednesday, Sept. 31. Thank you in advance for all your help.
Today many items were attached to this week's assignment sheet. I sent home the Core Spelling List. these are the words all students are expected to be able to spell in their writing by the end of the year. Feel free to work on these at home.
I also attached and IXL sheet. Briefly, IXL is an online supplemental math program. Students/parents can choose items for practice or enrichment. It is not graded and parents can monitor student progress. It seems like students may really enjoy it and get math practice.
I attached the Accelerated Reader (AR) letter explaining what AR is. This program is to encourage reading and good comprehension. It is not graded, there are no points to earn. They are given a comfort reading range. It is written on the back of the letter. The levels are not grade levels, they are reading ranges. Students reading in their ranges will have more success and will then be more motivated to read.
The weekly homework is attached. Yes, I will expect them to be able to tell their address and an important phone number.

Thursday

We are continuing learning about the Holy Trinity in religion. We were also able to go to Adoration this afternoon. The students were wonderful. They were able to sit quietly and talk to God.

In language arts students went to centers for the first time this year. They did an excellent job. They are also writing about a friend this week. Today they made their word web.
In math students completed the first quiz  and they completed a time test.
In science we completed a experiment about where germs go when you sneeze and how can you prevent germs from spreading by using a kleenex or sneezing into your elbow.

A note about recess. There is not to be any trading or purchasing of items brought to school to play with.
2nd graders don't understand that trading is permanent. Students should not be bringing money to school unless it is for an official reason, like buck-a-jeans, milk, lunch, etc.
Stay Cool!
