In math students are continuing subtraction with renaming. I did show them the -1 trick for subtracting 100's.
ex. 600  -1     599
   - 158  -1   -157
Same answer with no renaming. Students can learn to do this in their heads.

In language arts students took their weekly assessment. They have also been doing some peer editing. Yesterday they read another student's story and corrected spelling and grammar. Today they read a different student's story and made 2 compliments and 1 suggestion for the story. I heard some awesome language,
lots of kind words, and good suggestions.

Monday

The field trip the Diocesan Pastoral Center was a success. We started the day honoring veterans at school with a flag ceremony. Then we hopped on the bus.
We had lots of time to visit the spectacular ST. Mary's Basilica. Students loved naming the saints and looking at all the stained glass.
Then Mrs. Mueller, the superintendent, gave us a great tour of the center.
It warmed up and was warm enough to eat lunch outside.
The morning finished with Mass in the chapel. Except for the newness of the kneelers, students were awesome and actively participated. The adults had a chuckle watching the 2nd graders navigate the kneelers. We were all reminded of their youth, and enjoyed them.
